SOCIAL TENSION AND ECONOMIC CHALLENGES IN UKRAINE: ANALYSIS OF DETERMINANTS AND KEY FACTORS
Abstract
In the article "Social Tension and Economic Challenges in Ukraine: Analysis of Determinants and Key Factors," the relationship between social tension and economic processes in Ukraine is explored in the context of contemporary challenges. The theoretical approaches to defining social tension and its main determinants are analysed. The topic of social tension is significant in a historical context, examining phenomena such as disintegration, loss of identity, and class conflicts. The relevance of the issue is heightened in the face of social and economic crises in Ukraine. Inequality in resource distribution leads to financial difficulties, exacerbating feelings of insecurity. The study highlights the importance of social cohesion for economic stability. The aim of the article is to examine the impact of social tension on the economy and analyse its factors. The methodology includes statistical and comparative analysis of data from official sources. Based on statistical data and international comparisons, Ukraine's position on the Human Development Index (HDI) is considered, which stood at 0.734 in 2022, corresponding to 100th place in the global ranking. Key factors influencing the formation of social tension are identified, with military actions (72% of respondents) and financial difficulties (41% of respondents) being the most prominent. Issues related to housing provision are examined, revealing that about three million citizens live in damaged buildings, and 31% of renters spend over 70% of their household income on housing and utility services. The dynamics of real incomes are analysed, showing a growth of 22.5% in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in the previous year. A conceptual model for studying social tension is proposed, considering financial-economic, socio-psychological, and institutional factors. Based on the conducted research, the necessity for a comprehensive approach to enhancing Ukraine's HDI through the implementation of effective economic reforms aimed at stabilizing the social situation in the country is substantiated.
