TRANSPORT AND LOGISTICS SUPPORT FOR THE GRAIN SECTOR OF UKRAINE DURING WARTIME
Abstract
Logistics and transportation are one of the key sectors that ensure the effective operation of the agro-industrial complex and increase the competitiveness of national companies in the international market. The purpose of the article is to study current trends in the grain logistics market and identify new challenges and threats during the instability of wartime. It is studied that in 2025, grain logistics in Ukraine is under peak load and is characterized by an increase in the cost, as well as the distance of road transportation and an exacerbation of the shortage of drivers. It is observed that due to military risks, agricultural producers from front-line regions transport grain to elevators in the central part of Ukraine, which allows reducing crop losses and postponing their sale on more favorable terms. The article provides indicators of the provision of grain storage facilities in the regions of Ukraine, and also considers the construction of new and modernization of existing elevator capacities in the regions in 2024. It was established that the volume of available capacities for grain storage during 2024 increased by more than 500 thousand tons at elevators, processing and port terminals. An analysis of the cost of procurement services of branches of the Joint-Stock Company "State Food and Grain Company of Ukraine" for the 2025/2026 MY was carried out. It is substantiated that the export of Ukrainian grain is carried out mainly by sea and rail transport, with the railway remaining the main domestic mode of transportation. It was studied that the main share of grain cargo is transported in the direction of ports - 93%. Accordingly, only 7% of grain cargo is exported through western border crossings. In November 2025, 1 million 541 thousand tons of grain were transported by rail in export traffic, the volume exceeding the corresponding figure in October 2025 by 40%. Changes in the volume of exports of Ukrainian agricultural products in the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 marketing years were compared. It was studied that the main countries-buyers of Ukrainian wheat and corn were the countries of the European Union, Asia and Africa.
