ECOLOGICAL TOURISM IN THE UKRAINIAN CARPATHIANS: ECONOMIC EFFICIENCY AND REHABILITATION POTENTIAL FOR WOUNDED MILITARY PERSONNEL
Abstract
The article substantiates the need to form a scientifically balanced model of ecological tourism in the territory of the forest fund of the Ukrainian Carpathians in the conditions of modern socio-economic challenges caused by the full-scale war of Russia against Ukraine. The relevance of the study is due to the growing need for comprehensive rehabilitation of wounded soldiers and the limitations of traditional approaches, which are mainly focused on the medical and psychological aspects of recovery. It is proven that the natural and recreational potential of the forest ecosystems of the Carpathian region is insufficiently used in the system of rehabilitation, recreation and social adaptation of the military. Theoretical approaches to the development of ecological tourism are summarized and key contradictions between the needs for the preservation of natural ecosystems and their economic use are identified, as well as between the high potential of the tourism industry and the low level of infrastructure and investment support. The conceptual principles of the ecological tourism model are proposed, which integrates economic efficiency, the principles of sustainable nature management and the social function of the rehabilitation of wounded soldiers. It is substantiated that the creation of specialized rehabilitation and recreation centers on the territory of the forest fund of the Ukrainian Carpathians will contribute to improving the quality of recovery of wounded soldiers through the use of natural medical and recreational resources (climate, silence, forest therapy, etc.), promotes more effective physical and psycho-emotional recovery, accelerating the return of wounded soldiers to active life and social integration, and will also stimulate the socio-economic development of the region. The key structural components of the ecological tourism model are identified: infrastructural, organizational, economic and social. The presence of a multiplier effect from the development of ecological tourism is proven, which is manifested in the creation of jobs, the growth of incomes of local communities and the activation of related industries. Special attention is paid to the integration of ecological tourism into the rehabilitation and recreation system through the implementation of therapeutic practices, in particular forest therapy and adapted tourist routes. The main barriers to the development of ecological tourism are identified and ways to overcome them are proposed, including improving regulatory support, attracting investments and developing intersectoral partnerships. It was concluded that the implementation of the proposed model of ecological tourism will provide a synergy of economic, environmental and social effects, contribute to the sustainable development of the Carpathian region and increase the efficiency of the rehabilitation of wounded soldiers.
