DEFINITION OF THE CONCEPT “DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION” IN SCIENTIFIC DISCOURSE
Abstract
The article analyzes the definition of the concept of "digital transformation". It is determined that the current stage of development of society is inextricably linked with digital transformation, which affects all spheres of human life and provides solutions to many technological, strategic, operational, managerial, legal, educational and other issues. An analysis of changes in the volume of publications since the beginning of the mention of the category "digital transformation" - 1970-2024 in the Scopus scientometric database was conducted. The distribution of publications on the concept of "digital transformation" in the Scopus subbase from 1953 to 2025, grouped by fields of knowledge, was demonstrated. The countries with the largest volume of publications under the keyword "digital transformation" in the Scopus subbase were analyzed. It was determined that the concept of "digital transformation" has certain characteristics that contribute to increasing the productivity of enterprises. It is noted that publications on digital transformation in the context of enterprise management are widespread throughout the world. However, some countries, such as China, the United States and Germany, lead in the number of publications. This indicates that these countries have a strong research and innovation potential for research on digital transformation of enterprises and its use in practice. In the scientific literature, most authors consider digital transformation as the process of using new ways of organizing the work of an enterprise that enable scaling, improving customer service, creating competitive advantages, and generating profit. The concept of "digital transformation" has the following features: a process that includes the latest elements as a response to the latest changes; a reform that will affect the efficiency of the enterprise; a process that promotes the use of the latest approaches taking into account strategic partnerships; a reformatting of the enterprise's thinking and culture based on internal and external guidelines; a tool that helps an entrepreneurial entity regain leadership positions in the market; changes that use information and communication technologies; the interrelation of factors that enhance the growth of the enterprise; the potential of digital technologies that applies and covers all levels of entrepreneurship; a process that uses a strategy based on the improvement and search for digital technologies; a radical change in the form of activity, which is built on the formation of new business models, target audience, and the use of digital platforms.
