INTEGRATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL PRIORITIES INTO STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN THE CONTEXT OF DIGITALIZATION AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

This article examines how environmental priorities can be embedded in the strategic management of entrepreneurship in the context of digitalization and sustainable development. Environmental priorities are interpreted not as declarative intentions, but as managerial benchmarks that define acceptable limits of impact and target environmental performance for resource use, emissions, waste generation, and environmental risks. The key managerial challenge is to convert these priorities into measurable objectives, assigned responsibilities, and control procedures that are embedded in the strategic cycle and supported by reliable data. A practical integration logic is proposed through interconnected mechanisms: aligning priorities across strategic, tactical, and operational levels; establishing a system of environmental performance indicators and regular management reporting; assigning accountability for indicator owners and implementation actions; linking incentives and performance plans to environmental results; and using digital data, analytics, and automation to monitor deviations and enable timely corrective actions. For selecting and prioritizing environmentally oriented initiatives, the paper outlines a multi-criteria approach that combines environmental effect, economic feasibility, risk profile, implementation time, scalability, and consistency with overall business strategy. In the sustainable development context, such integration yields tangible economic effects: improved resource efficiency and cost reduction, fewer losses from non-compliance and downtime, stronger reputation and better access to partners and investment, as well as enhanced innovation capacity and competitiveness. The social dimension is highlighted through safer and more predictable operations, a lower likelihood of incidents and related social losses for employees and local communities, and stronger stakeholder trust ensured by transparency and data traceability. The study contributes a management-oriented framing of environmental priorities and a structured set of integration mechanisms and decision prioritization criteria that can be adapted to industry specifics and different levels of digital maturity.
